Group calls on Philippines’ trade department to investigate missing Shopee parcels

Are you at your wits’ end because of an overdue Shopee package? You’re not alone. Several Filipino shoppers have yet to receive their parcels ordered from the popular e-commerce company, leading a group of digital advocates to urge the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to investigate the case of missing parcels.

Digital Pinoys said that several customers of Shopee have been complaining about delayed deliveries since its 12.12 (Dec. 12) sale last year, with some parcels tagged as missing in the company’s sorting hubs.

“The DTI should look into this as it is causing a great deal of inconvenience for customers, the sellers in their platform and the delivery riders,” national campaigner Ronald Gustilo said in a statement.

He also said that several sellers were also put at a disadvantage as they needed to settle numerous fees “despite the platform’s inefficiencies.”

“Many sellers are now disgruntled because they are paying for a platform fee, commission fee, packaging and delivery, among many other fees to use the platform, but Shopee can’t even get the sorting done right,” he said.

Gustilo also said that Shopee should shoulder sellers’ expenses and refund customers for undelivered parcels that have already been paid.

“It is unfair to make the sellers shoulder the return delivery fee after Shopee messed up big time. Even the packaging cost should be refunded by Shopee,” he added.

But perhaps we shouldn’t expect much from the same company who made questionable choices about its brand ambassador and caused a mass deletion of their app?
