The Kapuso director made some clarifications about the show in response to Diaz’s observation on how Ward tackled her character.

Kapuso director L.A. Madridejos responded to talent manager and showbiz columnist Ogie Diaz, after the latter’s comment on Jillian Ward’s portrayal of her role in the afternoon drama, Abot Kamay Na Pangarap.

Diaz commented on the September 27 episode of the Kapuso show on Twitter.

“Nakanood ako sandali ng “Abot Kamay Na Pangarap” sa GMA. Alam ko mahusay itong si Jillian Ward umarte, eh. Pero dito sa serye, tamad siyang umarte. Doktor/nurse pa naman ang role. Walang tensyon sa katawan. Sana, nag-immerse muna sa ospital para naaaral ang character. Sayang.

“(I’ve briefly watched ‘Aboy Kamay Na Pangarap’ on GMA. I remember how good an actress Jillian Ward is. But here, I find her acting lazy. Her role is a doctor/nurse, but her body lacks tension. A part of me wishes GMA Network made her study her role thoroughly first, in an immersion. What a waste!),” Diaz tweeted.

Madridejos, who helmed several Kapuso shows already, including breakout hits First Yaya (2021) and First Lady (2022) responded to Diaz’s tweet quickly and had some clarifications.

“Sir @ogiediaz magandang hapon. Maraming salamat sa comment. Pero one thing na kaya ko issure is inaral ni Jillian ang role nya. Kung may nagkamali po siguro ay ako. Or baka yun ang hiningi ng eksena. Pero will keep this in mind po para maimprove pa ang show. Salamat po.

“(Sir Ogie, thanks for the comment. One thing I can vouch for is that Jillian thoroughly studied her character. If there is someone to blame, then that must be me. It is also possible that is what the scene required of Jillian. Rest assured, your comment will be noted for us to keep improving the show)”, he politely responded.

Some fans also came to Ward’s rescue and informed Diaz of the young Kapuso star’s immersion before the series started taping.

This is an ignorant take, Ogie,” commented Kapuso fan, @oshkoshlacoste, who seemingly lectured Diaz on how characters in popular medical dramas usually behave. “Have you watched other medical drama? If yes, then u’ll know na hindi sila exagge,” he asked Diaz.

Another user, @qdsprn, made a similar comment: “You are very wrong di porket hospital ang setting dapat aligaga ka na a big No Residente ka pa lang nag nag aaral pa rin di pa pedeng bitawan mag isa hindi dapat OA ang acting pag marami ka ng alam doon magsisigaw ka na.

(You are wrong if you think being in a hospital requires you to look tense and anxious. She is still a newbie resident; she is still adjusting and can not be allowed to move by herself. She must not do exaggerated acting. You can only do that if you already know a lot),” she tweeted.
