HONOR is set to launch its newest mid-range smartphone, the HONOR X9a, tomorrow, January 19, 2023. It sports a 6.67-inch curved AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate, a 5100 mAh battery, and a reinforced glass build.

We got our hands on an HONOR X9a ahead of its launch, so we’re here to share our unboxing experience and first impressions of the device.

On the front, we have a 6.67-inch AMOLED Full-HD+ display with a 120 Hz refresh rate.

The X9a’s display has a curved-screen design, which bleeds into the edges and makes for a premium viewing experience.

The X9a is made out of deeply reinforced glass, which HONOR says can withstand drops and bumps with absolutely no issue.

The unit we have here is the beautiful Emerald Green color variant that has a frosted glass look and texture, which gives off a nice gradient color scheme that makes the phone look and feel super premium.

Aside from Emerald Green, the X9a will also come in Titanium Silver and Midnight Black.

The star of the show, however, is definitely the X9a’s rear camera module. The X9a features what HONOR calls a Matrix Star Ring design.

The Matrix is where you’ll find the X9a’s triple-camera setup which consists of a 65MP F/1.8 main, a 5MP F/2.2 ultrawide, and a 2MP F/2.4 macro. We also have an LED flash at the bottom of the matrix ring.

With the combination of the frosted glass build quality and the futuristic-looking Matrix ring design, the X9a’s back panel certainly makes it stand out from the crowd.

For specs, the HONOR X9a is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 695 5G, an octa-core CPU clocked at 2.2 GHz, the Adreno 619 GPU, and will come with a single storage variant of 256GB of internal memory and 8GB of RAM. The X9a also sports a massive 5100 mAh battery, with 40-watt fast charging.

These are pretty good specs, especially with the above-average build quality that the X9a brings. However, we’ll know more about the X9a’s performance, video capabilities, and other features in our full review.
