She was a pop punk princess and he was the poster boy for pro skating—can we make it any more obvious? Millennials everywhere experienced a major throwback seeing a Tony Hawk cameo in Avril Lavigne’s very first TikTok video.
Talk about making a big entrance!
For Gen Z kids who might not remember, these two were quite a big deal back in the day when everyone was still wearing statement tees, Chucks (short for Chuck Taylor shoes), and wallet chains.

Avril Lavigne became one of the teen celebs who popularized skater/punk girl fashion. With her kohl-rimmed eyes and signature necktie, she blew up in the scene with the single, “Complicated.” The singer’s aesthetic became the go-to edgy look for those who weren’t into the low-rise jeans and baby pink velour tracksuit trend of the early 2000s. (We bet some of you tried wearing a necktie over a baby tee!)
Meanwhile, Tony Hawk has been a household name since the 1990s thanks to his mad skateboarding skills. The sports star still had enough street cred upon entering the next decade thanks to his series of video games called Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater.
So imagine our surprise when they popped up on the Gen Z platform.

In the video, Avril lip syncs to her popular hit, “Sk8er Boi,” then the camera zooms in on her iconic necktie then zooms out to reveal Tony Hawk holding doing his cool pro skater thing.
Looks like the dude had a blast filming the video and even paraphrased the lyrics in his post.

For those wondering kung bakit medyo jej ang spelling ng kanta, well, uso yan dati! Back then, there was an actual word limit to texts (shocking, right?), so we had to compromise grammar to get our message across.
In case hindi mo pa naabutan ang early 2000’s or too tito/tita to remember the old days, check out the “Sk8er Boi” MV here.
May pa-necktie ka bang nalalaman dati like Avril?
Feeling “Sk8er Boi” ka ba kasama ng tropa mo?
Which old-school collaboration would you want to see next?
