The gorgeous images were made possible through the creative direction of Seven Barretto of Studio Seven, while photos were taken by Claude Villahermosa of IFOTOgraphic.
Representing the country in an international competition can be nerve-wrecking but Rabiya Mateo can get by with a little help from her pageant queen friends. Former Miss Universe Philippines title holders have been offering Mateo all the support with the earlier reported agimat earrings from Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach being lent as a good luck charm.

Now another former beauty queen, Shamcey Supsup-Lee, who was the 3rd runner-up in Miss Universe 2011, also helped out. Supsup-Lee is currently the national director for the Miss Universe Philippines organization. She succeeded former national director Stella Araneta of Binibining Pilipinas.
During a virtual press conference, Rabiya Mateo shares the awesome advice given to her by Shamcey Supsup-Lee and says, “[Shamcey] would remind me to enjoy this journey. Because just like Miss Shamcey, we both share this trait of being competitive.”
We agree with Supsup-Lee’s advice dahil okay lang naman maging palaban sa contest but one shouldn’t be consumed by the competition or else they will forget to savor the experience.
The current Miss Universe Philippines echoes our sentiments saying, “Sometimes we tend to zone out. We think about the competition and how much we want to win. But now, it’s about enjoying and flourishing [in] those moments in which you can build connections [with] different people all over the globe.”
During another online interview, Supsup-Lee also gave a sweet message to Rabiya saying, “I wasn’t surprised when you won Miss Universe Philippines and I won’t be surprised if you took the fifth Miss Universe crown. I have a good feeling about your journey.”
Nakakataba ng puso malaman na sobrang supportive ng mga beauty queens sa isa’t-isa. You can really accomplish more when you’re surrounded by positivity and encouragement.
Just to emphasize this queens supporting queens movement, the official Miss Universe Philippines Facebook page uploads Rabiya Mateo and Shamcey Supsup-Lee’s photo and writes, “The queen behind our queen.”
