BINALONAN, Pangasinan – Senator Christopher Lawrence Go expressed his support to the postponement of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and barangay elections this year.

In an interview on Thursday, Go said the postponement will give the officials more time to implement their program and projects that were set aside due to the pandemic.

Hindi nila kasalanan na dumating ang pandemic. Madaming programa nila ang naantala pa sa ngayon (It was not their fault that there was the pandemic. They have programs that were not implemented),” he said.

Go said he signed the committee report postponing the elections to December 2023.

“Whatever the decision of the majority (in the Senate), then I will support it,” he added.

Go said the postponement will also give more time for voters to register.

“I encourage the public to exercise their right to vote,” he said.

Go attended the distribution of financial aid to indigent and in-crisis residents of Binalonan town in Pangasinan.

He also gave out balls used in basketball and volleyball to the barangays in the town, as well as bicycles, shoes, vitamins, face masks and family food packs to the beneficiaries through a raffle draw.

Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections provincial office said they are continuously preparing for the elections until a law will be passed regarding its postponement.

“As far as Comelec is concerned, the elections will push through because that is mandated in the law unless the Congress will pass a law for the postponement of the elections,” Pangasinan provincial election supervisor lawyer Marino Salas said in a recent interview.

The SK and barangay elections are set for Dec. 5 this year.
