ZAMBOANGA CITY – Twenty-four Trafficking in Person (TIP) victims are now under the care of the Department of Social Welfare and Development-9 (DSWD-9) in this southern port city.

Ivan Eric Salvador, DSWD-9 information officer, said Tuesday the victims are currently housed at the Home for Women and Processing Center for Displaced Persons in Barangay Talon-Talon.

“We are providing them temporary shelter, meals, and other needed support before their reintegration into their respective community,” Salvador said.

“We are in the process of locating their families and once located, we will send them home,” he added.

The victims, mostly men whose ages ranged between 11 and 60-years-old, are from the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Misamis Occidental, and Basilan.

One of the trafficking victims said they were recruited to work in Malaysia.

They were rescued by policemen on Friday in Barangay Port Holland Zone 2 (Shipyard main) in Maluso town, Basilan.

Salvador said the recruiter abandoned the victims upon sensing the presence of policemen. (PNA)
