No voter sign-up on Christmas, New Year holidays: Comelec

MANILA – There will be no voter registration activities in the days before and after Christmas and New Year's Day, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Friday.

In the past months, the poll body is holding voter registration activities even on days that are declared as regular and special non-working holidays.

"The Commission on Elections hereby informs the public that, pursuant to Resolution No. 10868, voter registration will not be conducted on December 24 and 31, 2022, or on Christmas Eve and the last day of the year, respectively," the poll body said in an advisory.

It added that voter registration activities are also suspended on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2, 2023, pursuant to the memoranda of the Office of the Executive Director (OED) and the Election and Barangay Affairs Department (EBAD).

On the other hand, it said that since Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, fall on Sundays, there will be no voter registration activities on these days.

Dec. 24, which falls on a Saturday, is a special working day while Dec. 25 is a regular holiday.

On Thursday, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. declared Dec. 26, a Monday, as an additional special non-working day under Proclamation No. 115.

The last day of the year, Dec. 31 is a special working day while Jan. 1 is a regular holiday.

Jan. 2 also a Monday, is a special non-working day.

According to Comelec Resolution No. 10868, voter registration shall be held at the Office of the Election Officer (OEO) of the city/municipality/district.

The public may file their applications from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., from Mondays to Saturdays, including holidays, except when declared otherwise by the Commission.

The voter registration resumed on Dec. 12 and will run until January 31, 2023. (PNA)
