ZAMBOANGA CITY – This city has recorded a 223 percent accomplishment—the highest in Zamboanga Peninsula—in its coverage for the first booster dose since the start of the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite, city health officer, said in a statement Thursday they have adopted numerous coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccination strategies.

Miravite said a total of 70,007 first booster doses have been administered here or 223 percent of the target goal of 31,375 by October 8, which marks the first 100 days of President Marcos in office.

Of the total, 14,723 of the first booster dose recipients were aged 12 to 17; 51,489, 18 to 29 years old; and 3,795, 60 years old and above.

Miravite said among the strategies they employed include intensified Covid-19 vaccination and the establishment of fixed vax sites, house-to-house visits and settings-based approach, among others, to reach eligible populations both in the urban and rural areas.

“Augmenting the ramped up vaccination rollout were the intensified information campaigns initiated by the city through the Risk Communication and Demand Generation team covering the different sectors and the different health districts,” Miravite said in a statement.

She said another factor that contributed to the increased vaccination rate was the grant of free rice to booster vaccinees initiated by Mayor John Dalipe starting August 15 when the Night Market in Rizal Street was opened. (PNA)
