MANILA – Scattered to widespread monsoon rains will still be experienced over many areas in Luzon as Typhoon Fabian enhances the southwest monsoon, the weather bureau said Friday.

The weather condition will prevail over the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Metro Manila, most of Calabarzon and Central Luzon, and portions of Mimaropa.

"Fabian" packs maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 185 kph. It was last tracked 510 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, slowly moving west-northwestward.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its 5 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin that tropical cyclone wind Signal no. 1 is still hoisted over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands.

Strong winds and near gale conditions may prevail in those areas within 36 hours.

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms, occasionally gusty conditions due to the southwest monsoon will also be experienced over the Visayas and the rest of Luzon, especially in the coastal and upland localities of those areas.

Rough to very rough seas continue to prevail over the seaboards of Luzon and Western Visayas. Sea travel is risky for small seacrafts, and mariners without the proper experience are advised to immediately seek safe harbor.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will have rain showers or thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas are forecast over the rest of the Visayas. Mindanao, on the other hand, will have light to moderate and slight to moderate seas, PAGASA said. (PNA)
