BUTUAN CITY – Three women leaders belonging to the Mamanwa and Manobo tribes in Agusan del Norte assumed their posts as Barangay Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representatives (BIPMRs) in Cabadbaran City.

Mayor Judy Chin Amante officiated the oath-taking of the three women IP leaders on Monday. They were identified as Bae Maribel Badbad, Bae Bebeth Enriquez and Bae Leonida Rebollo.

Bae Badbad, a Mamanwa, will serve as the BIPMR of Barangay Del Pilar while Bae Enriquez, also a Mamanwa, is the BIPMR of Barangay Mahaba.

Manobo IP leader Bae Rebollo, meanwhile, will be serving as the BIPMR of Barangay Puting Bato.

“The three IP leaders are the first BIPMRs to serve in the barangays,” Amante said in a statement Tuesday.

Officials from the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples in the Caraga Region (NCIP-13) and in Agusan del Norte were also present during the ceremony.

In a separate statement on Tuesday, the NCIP-13 said that the assumption into office of the three BIPMRs marked the victory of the IP communities in Cabadbaran City. (PNA)
