MANILA – The partnership between the government and the private sector continues to bear fruit as the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) has recognized Proctor and Gamble Philippines for supporting its programs that have helped in the fulfillment of its commitment to providing quality service to the country’s urban poor.

In a statement Friday, PCUP chairperson Undersecretary Elpidio Jordan Jr. acknowledged the multinational company’s provision of hygiene kits worth more than PHP2 million for the several caravans and other pro-poor activities conducted by the agency across the country since 2019.

Some 45 caravans were made in selected areas in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao prior to the advent of the coronavirus pandemic but this was stopped during the Covid-19 lockdowns and only revived the current year.

“We are lucky that we have partners like Proctor and Gamble who unselfishly provide much-needed support and material supplies for the benefit of our urban poor,” he said.

“Without companies like P&G, we would have found it harder to extend assistance to the less fortunate families in our country,” Jordan added.

The PCUP chair expressed optimism that the partnership would last even longer for the benefit and welfare of marginalized sectors who are thankful for the government's efforts to alleviate poverty and uplift their plight from being the poorest of the poor.

“Our stakeholders can expect a united initiative for giving assistance that would uphold the advocacy of our President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos (Jr.) in responding to the needs and concerns of every Filipino,” he said.
