MANILA – Bureau of Customs (BOC) officers at the Port of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) seized in Pasay City on Wednesday a shipment containing around PHP6.5 million worth of ecstasy tablets from Germany.

In a statement, the bureau said the contraband was concealed in a parcel covered with tarpaulin sheets at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC).

Initial examination revealed two improvised pouches which contained a total of 3,865 hexagon tablets and skull tablets later verified and confirmed as ecstasy tablets.

The seized illegal drugs were immediately turned over to Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), for case profiling and build up against persons responsible, and possible prosecution for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act 2002 (Republic Act 9165).

This will be done in relation to Section 119 (Restricted Importation) and Section 1401 (Unlawful Importation) of Republic Act No. 10863 otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).

Last week, authorities nabbed the claimant of 100 ecstasy tablets worth PHP170,000 sent via a letter at the Manila Central Post Office.

The operation was conducted in coordination with the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group. (PNA)
