Angeles City mayor tests positive for Covid-19

ANGELES CITY, Pampanga – Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. of this city has tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on Wednesday.

In an official post on social media, Lazatin was picked up by the staff of Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office from his residence following the release of the result of his reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test.

He was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center in this city.

The mayor has started having symptoms which include cough and colds. Lazatin was fully vaccinated last June.

Lazatin’s chief advisor, Irish Calaguas, said despite being in the hospital, the mayor will continue to run the city government.

“Rest assured na hindi mapapabayaan ang operations ng city government at delivery ng basic services (that the operations of the city government and the delivery of basic services will not be neglected). Let us pray for the mayor’s fast and full recovery,” Calaguas said in a statement.

As of Aug. 31, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the city is 9,593 with 1,502 active cases. The total number of recoveries is 7,696 while the total number of deaths is 395. (PNA)
