BACOLOD CITY – The Negros Occidental provincial government has acquired six units of Nissan negative pressure ambulance to boost the operations of its Emergency 911 service.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said Monday the medical transport vehicles will be deployed to the cities of Silay, Cadiz, La Carlota, and Kabankalan, as well as the municipality of Valladolid.

“This will form part of our 911 quick response. We will station them in [these] areas,” Lacson said in an interview after he inspected the vehicles together with Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz II, and Provincial Disaster Management Program Division head Zeaphard Caelian at the Capitol grounds here.

The ambulance units will be turned over to the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, Cadiz District Hospital in Cadiz City, Valladolid District Hospital in Valladolid town, Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital in La Carlota City, and Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital in Kabankalan City.

Each ambulance is equipped with a negative pressure air system, which isolates, for instance, a coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patient, from the vehicle cabin to control the spread of infection to the medical personnel manning the ambulance.

“These are not just for Covid-19 cases, but for all [medical] cases. For severe cases of Covid-19, the patient will be placed inside it while traveling, going to the hospital,” Lacson said.

Regarding the amount spent by the provincial government to acquire the negative pressure ambulance units, the governor said, “We are saving lives here, we cannot consider the cost anymore. This is really to save lives”.

In Negros Occidental, the Emergency 911, with a command center at the Panaad Park in this city, was established in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order 56, series of 2018, institutionalizing the Emergency 911 hotline as a nationwide emergency answering point. (PNA)
