BAGUIO CITY – The Police Regional Office-Cordillera (PROCor) on Wednesday said a total of 2,253 violations for illegal parking have been recorded in the region from August 25 to September 3.

Based on records from the Regional Operations Division, out of the total violations, 1,306 were recorded in Baguio City; 797 in Benguet; 106 in Abra; 18 in Mt. Province; 12 in Kalinga; 10 in Ifugao; and four in Apayao.

“Bagamat hinigpitan natin ang pagpapatupad ng ating mga lokal na ordinansa, ang gusto talaga natin dito ay ang kooperasyon ng ating mga kababayan. Iyong kusa silang susunod sa mga batas trapiko para maiwasan na mamulta sila (While we are strictly implementing local ordinances, we want everyone to abide by traffic rules to avoid being fined),” Regional Director Brig. Gen. Mafelino Bazar said.

He reminded motorists to place early warning devices whenever their cars break down on the road.

“Hindi kasi lahat ay pamilyar sa characteristics ng ating mga kalsada. Saka minsan ay makapal pa yung hamog kaya makakatulong na maiwasan ang aksidente kung may mga early warning devices (Not everyone is familiar with our road features. Thick fog also sometimes agrgavate the situation. So placing early warning device could reallyhelp prevent road accidents),” Bazar said.

He said the PROCor will continue intensifying road clearing to prevent accidents and to address the complaints of residents about illegal parking and obstructions along the highways.

He added that their police officers have been trained on simple vehicle repairs courtesy of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, making them capable of providing motorist assistance. (PNA)
