7.5K new recoveries trim PH active cases to 57K

MANILA – The nation's total number of recovered coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases has reached 2,661,602 after 7,561 new recoveries were reported on Monday.

In its 4 p.m. case bulletin, the Department of Health (DOH) said recoveries account for 96.4 percent of the total case count which has reached 2,761,307 since the start of the pandemic last year.

Meanwhile, 4,405 new infections brought the total number of active cases nationwide to 57,763, a drop from Sunday's 60,957.

About 76.2 percent of these active cases are mild, 6.5 percent are asymptomatic, 2.3 percent are critical, 5.3 percent are severe, and 9.27 percent are moderate.

Moreover, 149 new deaths were reported, bringing the total death toll to 41,942.

According to DOH data on Oct. 23, about 9 percent of 47,731 who were tested turned out positive for Covid-19.

"About 21 duplicates were removed from the total case count, and of these, 14 are recoveries. Moreover, 118 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” it added.

All laboratories were operational on Oct. 23 while five laboratories were not able to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System.

The two non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 0.3 percent of samples tested, and 0.2 percent of positive individuals based on data in the last 14 days.

To date, 52 percent of 4,200 intensive care unit beds, 40 percent of 21,100 isolation beds, 37 percent of 14,600 ward beds, and 36 percent of 3,300 ventilators are utilized by patients with Covid-19 nationwide.

Meanwhile, 46 percent of 1,500 intensive care unit beds, 35 percent of 4,800 isolation beds, 33 percent of 4,100 ward beds, and 32 percent of 1,100 ventilators dedicated to patients with Covid-19 are in use in the National Capital Region. (PNA)
