DUMAGUETE CITY – More vaccines are expected to arrive here this week amid the massive inoculation of its residents against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

In a media release on Tuesday, Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo said the additional vaccines from the national government will be shipped directly to the city.

Dumaguete had earlier received 10,000 doses as coronavirus cases surged in Negros Oriental, particularly in the city during the past several weeks.

The province was placed under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) from June 16-30, which was extended until July 15.

As of June 28, a total of 7,846 residents who belong to priority groups A1 (medical front-liners), A2 (senior citizens), and A3 (persons with comorbidities) have been vaccinated by the City Health Office.

Inoculation continues at two sites, and those who are eligible to receive the vaccines are encouraged to register online or through their barangay.

Meanwhile, the number of active Covid-19 cases in the city has dropped to 270 while 108 more patients recovered, the media release said.

However, 46 new positive cases were also reported as of June 28.
