LAOAG CITY – Motorists passing through the Bayugao bridge in Santa Cruz, Ilocos Sur are advised to take the alternate route in Barangay Sidaoen-Amarao-Babayoan-Lalong-Sagat road as two spans of the bridge collapsed due to massive flooding.

The alternate road is around eight kilometers long with directional detour signs already installed.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Jocelyn Oamar, spokesperson of the Department of Public Works and Highways in Region 1, said bailey panels and accessories were already delivered on site while bridge specialists assess the extent of damage to the collapsed bridge.

The Manila-North Road in Barangay Imus, Santiago, Ilocos Sur is also one lane passable due to a landslide.

“Our maintenance engineers and point persons are continuously monitoring their areas of responsibilities for appropriate action,” said Oamar in a virtual press briefing on Tuesday.

In the landslide-prone municipality of Pagudpud in Ilocos Norte, the DPWH is also closely monitoring the Banquet, Pancian road as it remains one lane passable due to an ongoing construction of a slope protection project.

During heavy rains, the Pagudpud road is highly susceptible to landslides. As per record of the DPWH, the said road has been closed nine times due to a series of landslides this rainy season. (PNA)
