CEBU CITY – A 26-year-old gay man who is in the Top 10 list of drug personalities in Central Visayas was arrested in a buy-bust operation here on Wednesday and yielded PHP27 million worth of suspected shabu.

In a press briefing with Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan, city police chief Col. Arnel Banzon said the suspect identified as Roldan Canillo Rosales, alias "Shakira", a resident of Sitio Sip-ak, Barangay Sudlon 1 here, was arrested in the police operation along Transcentral Highway in the upland village of Babag.

He said the buy-bust operation was jointly conducted by the Lapu-Lapu City police’s anti-drug enforcement unit, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit and Highway Patrol Group after more than a month of surveillance on the suspect’s illegal activities.

In a spot report, PDEA-7 regional director Levi Ortiz said confiscated from Rosales were five heat-sealed transparent plastic packs containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu, including the subject of the buy-bust which weighed 4,100 grams and estimated to be worth PHP27.88 million.

Also seized from the suspect were three bundles of boodle money with three genuine PHP500 bills used in the sting operation, a pouch, backpack, and a Rusi motorcycle bearing plate No. 0701-1009288.

Banzon said Wednesday's operation was an offshoot to the anti-drug sting in Lapu-Lapu City last April that resulted in the arrest of a Cebu City government employee for selling 105 grams of illegal drugs to a poseur buyer. The suspect pointed to Rosales as the source of his drug supply.

“His (Rosales) contacts are from Abuyog, Leyte. But we are still investigating the veracity of his revelation. We can’t determine if the source of his drugs is a jail or not,” Banzon told reporters in the local dialect.

Ortiz praised the Lapu-Lapu City police for its successful operation that led to the arrest of "Shakira" who is believed to be the supply source of other drug personalities in Cebu.

The suspect is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (PNA)
