MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) will immediately coordinate with the Department of Justice (DOJ), which has concluded its review of 52 police anti-illegal drug operation case folders, its chief said on Tuesday night.

“The PNP welcomes this development and we will immediately coordinate with the DOJ to discuss the results of its review. Walang itinatago ang PNP at handa kaming papanagutin ang mga pulis na mapatutunayang umabuso sa kapangyarihan o may ginawang katiwalian, lalo na sa ating mga operasyon kontra iligal na droga (The PNP has nothing to hide and we are ready to hold liable police officers who are proven to have abused their authority or those who have committed corruption, especially in operations against illegal drugs)," Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said in a statement.

Secretary Menardo Guevarra earlier announced that a DOJ panel has concluded the review of the 52 case folders submitted by the PNP, saying he has begun going over its findings.

The cases submitted by the PNP for review of the DOJ involve police anti-illegal drug operations that resulted in deaths of either the suspects or police operatives where the Internal Affairs Service found lapses in police operating procedures.

Eleazar assured that the organization is always open and ready to submit itself to any kind of investigation.

“We assure our kababayans of our continuous and tireless efforts to initiate aggressive reforms to further professionalize and further win back their trust, confidence, and respect to their PNP," he said.

The latest data from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) showed more than 17,000 rogue cops have been subjected to disciplinary actions and sanctions.

Of the figure, 906 police officers had been dismissed from the service. (PNA)
