DAGUPAN CITY – A 35-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is the first confirmed Delta variant case here.

The city's Public Information Office (PIO) said in a statement on Sunday that the patient was asymptomatic and will have a repeat reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction test (RT-PCR), along with immediate family members, on Aug. 30.

The OFW first tested positive for Covid-19 on July 31 in Manila, remained positive in another test here on Aug. 12, and left the isolation facility on Aug. 18 before the result of the genome sequencing test was released.

"The patient was allowed to go home as it was not considered infectious anymore since 10 days have lapsed after the first result came out," the PIO said.

Dagupan still has 487 active Covid-19 cases as of Sunday while 2,144 have recovered out of the total 2,731 infected. (PNA)
