On October 14, Kapuso actress Aiko Melendez recounted her love story with Zambales Congressman Jay Khonghun.

During the media conference for Mano Po Legacy: The Flower Sisters, including LionhearTV, Melendez narrated how Khonghun messaged her through Instagram.

Eh di ba sa IG, mayroong option na to accept or just to read it di ba? ‘Yung profile pic niya is cartoons which is ‘yung ano niya na nakasalamin. So sabi ko, ‘Sino ba ‘tong adik na ‘to na parang nagme-message sa akin na hey, ‘Can we ano–can we meet?’

“Tapos sabi niya, ‘I’m the Mayor of Subic.’ So finally, mayroon akong kailangan sa Subic.”

She then cited how she met the former Mayor of Subic after six months of ignoring Khonghun’s DMs.

She noted Khonghun’s persistence which led her to fall for the Zambales Congressman.

Tapos nag-meet na kami, he got my number kasi nga may kailangan ako sa kaniya. Tinulungan niya ako sa kailangan ko. From day one, hanggang ano na, hindi na niya ako tinigilan, tapos naging kami na.”

She also talked about Khonghun’s family of public servants in Subic and her first impression of her beau.

“He’s really mabait, kasi ‘yung pamilyang Khonghun sa Subic, very prominent sila eh. They’re a family of Public Servants, from the Dad, Mother, Sisters, lahat sila politician. Napaka-simple talaga.

She mentioned Khonghun had a long-time crush on her, which she appreciated alongside his persistence.

“Na-appreciate ko din naman ‘yun na ‘yung mere fact na byumahe siya mula Zambales, it’s two hours, it’s a total of five and a half di ba? So na-appreciate ko ‘yun sa kaniya, so ibig sabihin talaga, gusto niya ako, plus the fact na natulungan niya ako sa kailangan ko.”
