Free filmmaking talks at Yabang Pinoy’s Philippine Cinema Sessions

If you’re an aspiring filmmaker or a movie buff then you might be interested in this month’s Philippine Cinema Sessions. Hosted by the Yabang Pinoy organization, this weekly livestream event features key personalities, industry leaders, and seasoned artists gathered in a roundtable discussion. Has the Filipino movie industry bounced back from the global disruption? How are filmmakers and other professionals coping with the difficulties of shooting on location and the temporary closure of cinemas? Find out when you attend the September 3 lecture: The Post-Pandemic PH Cinema.

Do you want to become a better LGBTQIA+ ally and learn how to give proper visibility without resorting to stereotypes? Check out the September 10 discussion Portrayals in a Spectrum: The Challenges of Representing LGBTQIA+ in the Screen. The topic also touches on the evolution of queer cinema through the local lens so we can see how far we’ve come and how much more work needs to be done. 

Now that we are mostly working or studying from home due to lockdown restrictions, most of us spend movie nights binge-watching. Streaming platforms have certainly experienced a boom during the pandemic.

How has online streaming changed our viewing habits and how will it further affect the cinescape in the future once theaters are up and running again? This will be tackled in the September 17 session: Streaming Services Amidst Covid-19 Stricken Cinema.
