On January 18, Kapamilya artist Dawn Chang reacted to the viral response of netizens to her introduction as a Super Soldier in Mars Ravelo’s Darna.

At the media conference for the Darna Super Soldiers, Chang praised the netizens who created memes, citing that she understood their response.

“Alam mo natatawa ako kasi infairness naman, ang galing ng pag-edit nila. Nakakatawa, but I guess, I understand how they feel, they’re probably disappointed no, according doon sa mga nakasulat.”

However, she urged viewers to continue watching Darna to understand her character’s arc.

“But all I can say is that they have to watch the next episodes para mas maintindihan nila kasi hindi pa nila napapanood ‘yung buo. At tsaka isang clip lang ‘yun eh. Very introduction–introductory ‘yung napanood nila.

“So they have to watch for Maisha, and they have to [watch] for the rest of the Super Soldier kasi– actually, super happy ako kasi first ano pa lang, ‘yung attention nila nasa akin na.”

Earlier, netizens voiced their thoughts on Maisha’s introduction in the series.

As for her character, Chang discussed Maisha’s abilities and how it connects to social media.

“Maisha actually has the power to manipulate people through dance. So, para siyang Pied Piper, so ‘yun ‘yung inspiration niya. And I think this never happened in the history of Darna. I guess it’s something new– it’s something different.

“And a lot of people can relate because it’s dance. Nowadays, Tiktok is like number one, and Tiktok is, I don’t know, like 80% dancing. Ewan ko kung totoo. But I think it’s very relatable, marami ang nakaka-follow.”

Darna stars Jane De Leon, Janella Salvador, Joshua Garcia, and Zaijian Jaranilla. The action-fantasy series also features Paolo Gumabao, Kim Rodriguez, Eric Fructuoso, Dawn Chang, Simon Ibarra, Mark Manicad, Young JV, Joshua Colet, and Richard Quan.
