Ressa and Russian journalist Dmitry Muratov were named the prestigious award recipients “for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace.”

The award was announced on October 8 and was presented by Berit Reiss-Andersen, a chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
