Some people might prefer to kill time at an airport by making the most of the many shops, cafés, and restaurants available. Some, however, just need some shuteye especially if we’re talking about hours of layover.

Ahead of the upcoming G20 Summit in Bali, officials at the Ngurah Rai International Airport announced over the weekend that the airport welcomed a new addition to their facility: a capsule hotel.

Named PassGO-Digital Airport Hotel, the capsule hotel is touted as the first of its kind at the Bali airport.

“The launching of PassGO [hotel] is a part of our efforts to recover tourism, which has been struggling for two-and-a-half years during the pandemic,” state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I Faik Fahmi said in a statement.

PassGO-Digital Airport Hotel is a collaboration between the airport operator and hotel operator PT Krisna Graha Primatama. The capsule hotel offers 132 modern pods with wooden-style interiors equipped with compact features including cable TV, baggage storage, air conditioning, high-speed WiFi (so important), and two USB charging ports (also important).

Each pod also has its own lightbulb that can be color-adjusted, as well as a mirror, reading lights, and headphones.

Guests can also make use of private lockers and showers equipped with a water-heating system.

In line with Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno’s wish to welcome more remote workers, the capsule hotel is equipped with a co-working space that can hold a maximum of 20 people.

“[We] offer transit packages starting from 6 hours to 9 hours as well as overnight, therefore it’s flexible for the guests,” he said.
