As the G20 Summit in Bali nears, the central government has appealed for understanding and for travelers to be flexible with their flights to or from the island if they happen to be scheduled between Nov. 13 and Nov. 17.

The gathering between world leaders is scheduled to take place on Nov. 15 and 16 in Nusa Dua. The government has already announced policies to ensure that the event runs without much distraction from the public, such as the temporary enforcement of the odd-even traffic rule.

Now, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that domestic flights to I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport will be limited between Nov. 13 and Nov. 17.

“Other than from the Jakarta airport, no [domestic] flights to Bali,” he said.

A spokesperson of the Ministry of Transportation, Adita Irawati, said previously that people need to be flexible with their Bali travel plans during the week.

“We ask the community to rearrange their travel plans, and anticipate flight rescheduling from and to Bali,” said Adita in an official statement.

Travel operators and airlines have been reminded by the Ministry of Transportation to provide thorough information to travelers such as flight changes, cancellations, compensations, and refunds, among others. VVIP guests for the G20 Summit are expected to arrive between Nov. 13 and Nov. 16.

While VVIP flights are expected for the G20 Summit, there have been reports that some of G20 delegates will arrive in Bali using regular commercial flights.

Separately, airport operator Angkasa Pura I announced that the Ngurah Rai International Airport will limit regular flight operations on Nov. 14 between 12am to 2am and 1pm to 9pm. While on Nov. 17, regular flight operations will be limited from 12pm to 7pm.

“During the limited operation [hours], the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali Airport will still serve scheduled commercial flights. However, we ask travelers to be flexible with the flight schedules,” said Angkasa Pura I director Faik Fahmi.
