Lea Salonga tweets about gay people; translating Rajo Laurel’s tweet

January 9, 2021
  • Twitter followers of Lea Salonga laughed over their idol’s literal translation of Rajo Laurel’s Tagalog tweet.
  • Laurel stressed the fact that gays will always be gay regardless of the situation.
  • This is after Makati Chief Harold Depositar said that even gay men have the urge to touch women as they’re also male.

Lea Salonga made her followers chuckle when she tweeted a literal translation of Rajo Laurel’s tweet regarding gay people.

Members of the LGBTQ+ Community were alarmed when Makati Police Chief Harold Depositar stated that gay men will still have the tendency to touch women as it is a male’s basic instinct.

“Lalaki pa din sila. May instinct ‘yan and… you know, lalo na if you’re under the influence of intoxicating alcohol, and kung may presence of drugs pa — lalo na,” Depositar stated.

This prompted the LGBTQ community and its allies to tweet against the Makati chief’s words. One of which is well-known designer Rajo Laurel, who stated that the gay will always be gay.

ang baklang lasing ay baklang lasing

ang baklang lasing ay maingay na bakla

ang baklang lasing ay tahimik na bakla

ang baklang lasing ay gumagandang bakla

ang baklang lasing ay warlang bakla

ang baklang lasing ay dyosang bakla

laging bakla ang bakla

mabuhay ang mga bakla

Singer and theater actress Lea Salonga used this moment to test her translation skills and translated Laurel’s tweet to English.

“Pardon my translation skills! They need work!” she said.

A drunk gay is a drunk gay

A drunk gay is a noisy gay

A drunk gay is a quiet gay

A drunk gay is a more beautiful gay

A drunk gay is a fighting gay

A drunk gay is a goddess gay

A gay is always gay

Long live the gays!

Pardon my translation skills! They need work! https://t.co/JiiB0iqikA

While others took it to a more personal take as they sincerely thanked the singer for being an ally.

Thank you Lea for being an ally.

It was because of you I was able to accept my true self. Salamat Manang! 🏳️‍🌈 https://t.co/miNNNKD07Z

Bahaghari then commented on the matter and stressed that gay men are sexually attracted only to men.

“It seems the PNP must be reminded of a simple truth: Gay men are only attracted to men. It is alarming for our law enforcers to insist on branding these men as criminals even when, in the first place, the country has been embroiled in this mess because of the PNP’s inability to conduct a full and thorough investigation before jumping to conclusions,” Bahaghari spokesperson Rey Valmores-Salinas said in an statement.

“The LGBTQ+ are not mere accessories to the bogus narratives they wish to propagate.”
