BUTUAN CITY – Anti-narcotics agents have arrested a couple and seized some PHP136,000 worth of shabu in an anti-drug operation in Barangay Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City on Sunday.
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Caraga Director Aileen T. Lovitos identified the suspects on Monday as Agapito Gomez and his wife, Betsie Gomez, who are residents of San Agustin town, Surigao del Sur.
Lovitos said PDEA agents from Caraga and Northern Mindanao launched the anti-drug operation in Pesla Village, Zone 7, Barangay Carmen, Cagayan de Oro City, resulting in the arrest of the couple.
“The two suspects are top 1 and 2 targets as drug personalities for PDEA in Caraga Region,” Lovitos said.
She said the couple yielded 19 sachets of shabu weighing around 20 grams with an estimated value of PHP136,000, drug paraphernalia, and other pieces of evidence.
Although the couple has been staying in Cagayan de Oro for some time, Lovitos said the pair's alleged illegal drug trade in the Caraga Region--particularly in areas of Surigao del Sur and Butuan City--had largely continued.
“Agapito Gomez has a pending criminal case for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 in Surigao del Sur,” Lovitos said. (PNA)
