MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Bong Go is one of the most influential voices during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a study recently published by BluePrint.PH, a campaign management consultancy firm, on the opinions of the Filipino online community on COVID-19 education.
“The challenge is to build confidence among Filipinos that government is right and effective in its efforts in addressing the pandemic. It really helps that high government officials are seen as authoritative and decisive in efforts, and this includes providing the right and timely information so that all of us can make informed decisions,” said Eero Brillantes, president and CEO of BluePrint.PH.
The study, titled “Filipino sentiment analysis on education: Facebook scan on COVID-19 from March 15, 2020 to Jan. 31, 2021,” based its findings on data extracted from a social media platform, involving publicly available data from 80 million accounts.
Go gained the highest engagements for his published positions on the need to adapt to the “new normal” and his push for e-governance to cut corruption and red tape; postponement of the opening of face-to-face classes; and his various accomplishments so far as a senator and his legislative agenda designed to make government more responsive, efficient and compassionate to the needs of the people.
“If citizens are informed, they are more confident and helpful towards bayanihan efforts to fight the growing pandemic. People must understand the plans of the government in order to surpass the crisis that we are facing,” explained Go when asked about his reaction on the said study.
As the chair of the Senate committee on health, Go plays an important role in communicating vital information about COVID-19 to the public. His efforts in ensuring health information and potentially lifesaving guidance are accessible to all audiences are critical to the government’s response to the current crisis.
In recent months, the senator has repeatedly called for a nationwide campaign to educate and raise the awareness of the public regarding the vaccine roadmap in order to build vaccine confidence and obtain their long-term cooperation.
The roadmap is a multi-year plan for ensuring the safe, efficient and cost-effective delivery of vaccines to the Filipino people. It outlines the components of the procurement process, including quality assurance and distribution schedules, and the organizational chart of officials who will be responsible for spearheading the implementation.
“Aside from COVID, wrong news is also fatal. If we really want people to have confidence with the vaccine, they need to know what that is,” said Go.
“That’s why we must not waste the opportunity to properly plan the vaccine’s implementation, in order to guide the public using the right information they need in order to rise from their suffering,” he added.
The senator assured that he will work closely with the executive branch to ensure the proper implementation of the vaccine plan, and the prioritization of vulnerable sectors and poor Filipinos as directed by President Duterte.
He also reminded Filipinos of the need for bayanihan efforts in order for the country to fully overcome the pandemic. He emphasized the importance of the public’s cooperation in following the health and safety protocols and supporting the plans outlined by the government.
