Our #PinoyPride intensifies because Filipino-American college player Remy Martin (oo, parang yung alak lang) is the full package. Apart from being a dynamite player for the Arizona State Sun Devils, the 22-year-old baller is also quite the high achiever in the classroom and a model student overall.
Arizona State University acknowledged Martin’s excellence outside the basketball court, honoring him with the Bill Kajikawa Award. What is it for?

The award recognizes a graduating senior student-athlete’s academic excellence, athletic accomplishment, leadership, and service in the community. So yeah, it’s pretty much a big deal! After all, the legendary coach Bill Kajikawa, whom the award is named after, is one of the most important figures in Sun Devil history. Good job, man!
The college player just finished his degree in Sociology after completing his stellar four-year career with the program. (Nahiya naman ang report card namin!)
The six-foot floor general will go down as one of the school’s most accomplished players in recent history. He was named All-Pac 12 First Team Player twice in 2020 and 2021, and was a second team member in 2019. Martin also won the Pac-12 Sixth Man of the Year in 2018.
In his senior year in a Sun Devil uniform, Martin normed impressive averages of 19.1 points, 3.7 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game.
Apart from sharing the namesake of a popular cognac, Martin is already quite familiar to Filipino fans. He expressed his desire to suit up for Gilas Pilipinas several times and was actually quite close last year. However, eligibility issues prevented him from donning the red, white, and blue. Sayang!
Regardless of what happens in the future, we give major props to Remy Martin for setting an example that you can balance the books while shooting hoops. We’ve already seen fellow Pinoy player Chris Ross focusing on their education as well.

Sa tingin namin, siguradong patok ang mga accomplishments ni Remy sa susunod na Pinoy family reunion! Do you think Remy Martin will ever don a Gilas uniform in the near future?
