Kakanin or sticky rice is derived from the Filipino words �kain� or to eat and �kanin� or rice, because its primary ingredient is sticky rice or rice flour. In the wide variety of the kinds of sticky rice, one that is visually appealing is the colourful sapin-sapin. It is usually in layered purple, yellow and white color that represents the products abundant in the Philippines which are purple yam, coconut and jack fruit.
